Firefox Session Manager to Chrome Session Buddy

Posted by matt

Import your saved web browsing sessions from Firefox's Session Manager to Chrome's Session Buddy!

Background

I have not used bookmarks for years - sessions are a more convenient alternative. Simplistically, they allow you to store a group of related pages you have open under a single name. In fact, a session is a lot more besides the URLs you have open in your tabs and windows. It might include the history for each tab, lists of closed windows and tabs, form data you have entered, etc. Both the Session Manager plug-in for Firefox and the built-in session manager in Opera store all these data.

Google Chrome also has a decent session management extension called Session Buddy. This doesn't store the full set of data like Firefox/Opera, only the pages you are currently viewing. For most people moving from Firefox it will be an adequate replacement. However, you will want to access your old Firefox sessions, and now you can.

Session Import Utility

This is a simple Windows utility to import saved browsing sessions from Firefox Session Manager to Google Chrome. It allows selection of individual sessions, and listing of URLs. To make use of this utility you will have the following on your computer:

  • Microsoft Windows (tested on XP and XP-x64 only)
  • Mozilla Firefox web browser (tested on 3.6 only)
  • Firefox Session Manager plug-in
  • Google Chrome / Chromium web browser
  • Chrome Session Buddy extension

Hey ωould уou mіnd stating which blog plаtform you're working with? I'm
going to start my own blog in the neаr future but I'm having a hard time selecting between BlogEngine/Wordpress/B2evolution and Drupal. The reason I ask is because your layout seems different then most blogs and I'm looking for something сomplеtеly unіque.

P.Ѕ Sorry for getting off-topic but I had to asκ!

Download updated to version 0.1.0.1

The utility should now work on systems where the Chrome database file is named with a different number to '1'.

Re: not work

Could you please tell me which version of Windows are you using, and copy the text displayed for 'Chrome Session Buddy Store'.

Thanks,
Matt

I'm using Windows 7 64bit,

I'm using Windows 7 64bit, firefox session folder is correct on sessions tab I see all my sessions from firefox but folder for session buddy here something is wrong. Here is path listed for session buddy storage:
c:\Users\wojtek\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\Databases\extension_edacconmaakjimmfgnblocblbcdcpbko_0\
Session Buddy is installed in chrome it's version is 2.1.2

not working ?

Windows 7 (32-bit) , Chrome up to date (18.0.1025.162 m), Session Buddy3.0.9
... problem same as noted above , session buddy folder is marked with question mark, but it surely exists:

C:\Users\msurbat\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\databases\chrome-extension_edacconmaakjimmfgnblocblbcdcpbko_0>dir
Volume in drive C has no label.
Volume Serial Number is 3AD1-19F3

Directory of C:\Users\msurbat\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\databases\chrome-extension_edacconmaakjimmfgnblocblbcdcpbko_0

30.04.2012. 11:24 .
30.04.2012. 11:24 ..
30.04.2012. 10:55 0 1
30.04.2012. 11:24 19.456 2
2 File(s) 19.456 bytes
2 Dir(s) 7.274.917.888 bytes free

... any thoughts ?

Try this...

It seems as though the database file is not always named '1', although I don't know how the name is determined. For now, you could try shutting down Chrome and rename the file '5' to '1'. This should let you import sessions using the utility, but if Chrome does not then find your saved sessions, you may have to rename the file back to '5'.

When I get time I will update the utility to examine all numbered files in the directory until a valid sessions database is found.

Thx !

It worked exactly as you described, with "renaming back" ...
Just (for the sake of completeness) notice that second file was "2" and not "5" (see directory listing from my initial message).
Finally ready to start to substitute ff with chrome - thx!

Oops

My bad. Not sure where '5' came from.

Windows 7

I have just tried it on a friends machine running Windows 7 64-bit, and I didn't have any problem. One thing I notice is your path should be ...\chrome-extension_edacconmaakjimmfgnblocblbcdcpbko_0\ instead of ...\extension_edacconmaakjimmfgnblocblbcdcpbko_0\, but I expect that was just an error in your copying of it. Otherwise, I suggest you try browsing for the database manually - it is a file named "1".

I manually pointed it to

I manually pointed it to folder chrome-extension_edacconmaakjimmfgnblocblbcdcpbko_0
where I have 2 files "1" is empty and "5" have 142,0 kb. Once in the past I've succesfully transferred my all sessions from firefox to chrome using that tool, but now I need to do this again, maybe is any limit and it can be used only once?
